What plagues your conversation partner more: How old were you when you learned to tie your shoes? Duck lips should complete the look nicely. What could I do to make you feel more comfortable?
How often do you exercise? What is the worst advice that you got that you actually listened to?
Or, would you take all that land and build a top-secret base for your own secret purposes? If you could meet anyone in history, who would it be? Laugh about the potential consequences. Do you sing in the shower? How do you know the host?
What is one thing you miss about being a kid? What did you do this past weekend? What was the highlight of your week? These may be a bit forward as your first questions, but if the conversation is progressing well, try out one or two of these.

One of the best ways to improve communication skills is to become familiar with the language by reading, building vocabulary, and discussing what you study in daily conversations.
Some people seem to naturally know how to start a conversation. They can kickoff conversations anywhere, from a party, to a seminar, to a queue at the supermarket. I’ve always admired these rare people.
